Past Announcements:
June 4, 2017 – Leo Awards 2017 – Krista was thrilled to attend the 2017 Leo Awards with Lost Solace nominated for 7 awards: Best Direction, Best Screenwriting, Best Cinematography, Best Picture Editing, Best Musical Score, Best Lead Male Performance, and Best Supporting Female Performance. Highlighted in Miss 604’s blog on the event, Krista was photographed wearing BCBG Runway on the red carpet with Don Thompson, President of Finale Editworks.
May 9 – 11, 2017 – Back on Stage with “Out & About” – The original Canadian play, “Out & About”, had its Western Canadian premiere as part of the Cold Reading Series’ 4×3 Play Series with 4 short plays up for 3 nights only. Krista loved being back on stage and working with Matthew Smalley again, this time with him in the Director role after being on stage together for “Where’s My Money” in 2015. The play dealt with the sensitive subject of a gay man coming out to his family as a transgendered woman, with comedy relief balancing out the sometimes awkward moments, strong emotions, and difficult discussions that followed. Krista was honoured to be part of such a thought & discussion provoking piece.
January 16, 2017 – 4th Round of Actor Career Mentorship Kicks off with Women in Film & TV – Over 65 women have now participated in the successful program Krista created in 2012, which this year had an exciting jury of Simon Barry (Continuum, Van Helsing), Lori Triolo (Blackstone, Smallville, Lost Solace), and Krista Magnusson (Bloody Knuckles, Limitless). They had the difficult job of selecting 15 out of the 23 applicants to be matched with successful Canadian actresses for the 6-month mentorship program, with several mentors returning to give guidance on career goals, work/life balance, and how to create a long-term acting career. Over 100 Vancouver female actors having applied to the program now and with most common issue being struggling to figure out just how to get in front of Casting Directors to audition, it’s interesting to see that while the local industry is thriving with more projects filming than ever, the industry still may not be giving opportunities for unestablished actors to shine.
December, 2016 – “Lost Solace” Canadian Premiere at Whistler Film Festival – Krista’s first foray behind the camera as Assistant to the Producers and Second AD on the feature film “Lost Solace”, which filmed in Summer 2015, had it’s Canadian premiere at the Whistler Film Festival to a packed theatre with an extended Q&A session. Krista also has on screen role in the psycho thriller drama that has been winning awards on the festival circuit in 2016 & 2017, across from lead actor, co-writer, and producer, Andrew Jenkins, who Krista also shared the stage with in “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” earlier that year.
October, 2016 – On Set with “Untold Stories of the ER” – Krista had a wonderful day returning to the set of “Untold Stories of the ER” playing a uniquely layered character and getting to work with well-known Director, Allan Harmon. The episode is currently scheduled to air in Fall 2016 but exact dates will be announced as soon as they are available!
April 24, 2016 – Award Presenter at Persistence of Vision Film Festival – Krista was honoured to present the Women in Film award at this important festival, recognizing the work of University of British Columbia students throughout the year. The recipient, Zoe Arthur, is the epitome of a team player, working on numerous projects screening at the festival and volunteering with Women in Film & TV regularly. Zoe also received the Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography award for the Festival and could not have been more deserving.
January 12, 2016 – 3rd Round of Actor Career Mentorship Kicks off with Women in Film & TV – This successful program again had an inspiring jury of Kristen Lehman (Motive), Anne Wheeler (Reign), and Krista Magnusson, who selected 17 out of the 25 applicants to be matched with successful Canadian actresses for the 6 month mentorship program. This year’s new mentors include Meghan Ory (Once Upon a Time), Anne Marie DeLuise (Strange Empire), and Catherine Lough Haggquist (Elysium), with several staunchly supportive mentors returning for a third round, such as April Telek (Hell on Wheels), Ali Liebert (Bomb Girls), and Gabrielle Rose (Proof). The 17 mentees will again be volunteering each month at Quest Food Exchange, to pay it forward, build camaraderie, and have an activity outside the film industry that gives them joy – something the mentors repeatedly state is incredibly important.
June 3 – 10, 2015 – Back on the Boards with “Where’s My Money?” – Krista returned to the stage for the second time this year in the John Patrick Shanley play “Where’s My Money?”, as Marcia Marie. This play “suggests some intriguing ideas about the dangerous way men and women work out humiliations and frustrations from their past on their current partners”, according to Variety, and Krista was thrilled to be working with her mentor, Lori Triolo, who co-directed with Danielle Marleau. This was also her first foray into producing theatre and definitely has plans to do this again!
May 11, 2015 – Elected Vice President of Women in Film & Television Vancouver – Krista presented her final report as Treasurer for this great organization and was re-elected to the board as Vice President. She is honoured by the confidence the organization has in her and looks forward to another two years working with this collaborative and ground-breaking group of women.
February 26 – March 1, 2015 – “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” – Krista was thrilled to return to the stage in an Alan Ball classic play where five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom during a wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.
February 1, 2015 – 2nd Round of WIFTV Actor Career Mentorship Launches – The impressive jury of Maureen Webb, Susin Nielsen and Krista Magnusson had the difficult decision of selecting 18 mentees from the 26 applications received this round. With some new mentors joining the program this year, including Kristin Lehman (Motive) and Jill Morrison (Package Deal), and several mentors returning for a second round, the selected mentees are absolutely thrilled by the group of amazing women supporting them. The program kicked off February 1st with the first volunteering day at the Quest Food Exchange on February 5th, 2015. Mentees will volunteer there together once a month to both give back to the community and to provide a rewarding activity outside of the film industry – something highly recommended by mentors last year!

Krista has a large supporting role in the film and can’t wait to experience the film for the first time with the Fantasia Fest audience.

Sept. 12, 2012 – Cast in “Jacked” Web Series – The team for this upcoming British comedy style web series is what most people would consider to be “stacked” and Krista is both thrilled & humbled to have been cast as a Series Lead Character, Helen. Creator & Writer, Jeff Richards, has built a team combining his own smart, hilarious writing with Director of Photography, Karl Herrmann, who has worked on Dawson’s Creek, iRobot, and even E.T., and the Visual Effects genius, Ivan Hayden, who has worked Supernatural since 2005, as well as Lost, and Andromeda.
July 8, 2012 – Awarded “Best Ensemble” with “A Particular Class of Women” – The entire cast was thrilled to receive this recognition at Theatre BC Mainstage Festival at the Gala Awards on Saturday, July 8th, 2012. Jeff Hyslop presented the award stating that “the decision was an easy one, made early in the week”, referring to the fact that the play was only the second one to perform in the festival. The cast welcomed Krista with open arms when she stepped into the role of Marky a month ago, and she is very grateful to have had the opportunity to work with each of them.
June 6, 2012 – Joins Award Winning Cast & Production “A Particular Class of Women“ – The play, which originally went up in April and won awards for Outstanding Production, Director, Ensemble Cast and Costume Design, is being sent to Theatre BC Mainstage Festival & Competition. Fortunately for Krista, an actress was unable to continue with the project and Krista has been asked to join this amazing group for two fundraising performances on June 22 (Langley Playhouse – Sold Out!) and June 24 (Columbia Theatre), and the festival performance on June 30th, in Kamloops. She is extremely excited to accept this challenge, as the role is certainly a unique one – a strong, fun, 16 year old table dancer named Marky.
